Say NO to "Pro"

Hey loves!  My apologies for the long wait inbetween blogs - life’s been hectic!  But, with that said, it really gave me time to test out Proactive.  Here we go!
As you can see from my previous post, I was pretty excited about trying Proactive.  Even after trying it, I was excited to continue using it - I wanted the great results you see on TV (you know the testimonials from people who have severe acne and then they found Proactive and POOF like magic they have stunning, radiant, flawless, HD quality skin).  Well, I will definitely not be the next Proactive Skin Super Model – but I did learn a lot and have a lot to write about!
My First Week, Yay!
So I followed the instructions to a T!  I was cleansing, exfoliating and toning twice a day just like they told me.  Soon, I started to see improvement!  How exciting, right?  I was well on my way to being the next Proactive testimonial!
Then Came Week Two...
I continued to follow the cleansing regimen, and although my face was clearing, I was noticing some weird stuff happening.  My neck had little bumps all over it, you could not see them (or I would have snapped a pic for you), but you sure could feel them!  It felt like I had sand all over my neck.  At first I thought I did not remove the exfoliant properly, but after rinsing multiple times I realized it was me!  I wasn't really worried about it and continued the process.
Ouch! Week Three...
Still continuing the process and now people were noticing my skin.  You would think this would be a good thing, but no!  They were noticing how red and inflamed my face and neck had become; one person thought I had a bad burn from a tanning bed!! I honestly hadn't noticed how red my skin was, but I had noticed the bumps that were on my neck had moved to my face.  Now I knew it was time to stop using the products.  My skin was nice and clear...and red and full of sand like bumps - awesome right?
And Just When You Thought It Was Over...

The redness and bumps took about a week and a half to go away and my acne came back worse than ever.  How wonderful!! So what did I do?  I used the Proactive one last time as a spot treatment on my break out and BAM back to being red with bumps! And this time, it took a lot longer for the redness to go away - a lot longer.  My skin is just now returning to normal.

My Final Opinion

Well, I have many things to say about Proactive after this testing but if you do not feel like reading it all, please leave knowing this - DO NOT USE PROACTIVE! :)
When doing anything to your skin, from something like Proactive all the way down to something simple like a moisturizer, it is never a "one size fits all" world.  We all do not need the same things for our faces, and using the wrong products can really do you harm.  That being said, I really feel that prior to ordering Proactive, you should have to (at least) speak with a Proactive Rep and discuss what is really going on on your face.  In reality, you should just go to a skin care specialist.  They can tell you what your skin type is, what conditions you have, what you should be using, how often it should be used, ext.
What Proactive does to your skin is strip it of all its oils and destroys your protective barrier.  Although you may see positive results in the beginning, they will not last - and I will tell you why.  Having oil is NOT a bad thing!  I know you are reading this and thinking, "Katie is crazy, oil causes breakouts!"  Okay, you are right, oil does cause breakouts - IN EXCESS! Everyone produces oil and everyone needs oil.  When you strip away all the oil your body says, "Hey, where is all the oil I made?  I'm going to have to make more!" And now you have excess oil leading to more breakouts.

Breakout -> Proactive use, striping oils -> dries out breakouts clearing the skin and striping oils -> YAY CLEAR SKIN -> body starts making extra oils -> even worse breakout
Do you see the cycle?  Yes, Proactive will clear you, but it will only put you into a cycle.  A very unhealthy cycle for your skin.
Now let’s return to the protective barrier I mentioned prior.  Everyone needs this protective barrier, which is made largely by the oils Proactive strips away.  If you take away this protective barrier you have nothing protecting your skin from everyday irritants causing your skin to become red, inflamed, and possibly itchy.  Also, side note, everyday irritants age your skin therefore without this protective barrier you skin is aging at a faster rate - and no one likes that!
I could go on and on, but what I really want to get out there is that although this product is all over TV does not mean it is safe for everyone.  If you want to know what products you should be using, see a skin specialist and have your face mapped.
My Face Mapping
Being I am in school for this, you are probably wondering why I needed to get this done by someone else.  Well, I was in a evil cycle with drying out and over producing and I really needed someone else to look at me and put me in my place (haha).  I wanted to start over with my skin and just didn’t know what to turn to in order to clear my acne and calm the redness.  Well, I was WOWed to say the least.  She knew immediately that my skin was not sensitive and that I caused the redness with a product.  She also read my face (like a palm reader reads a palm) and said the cause of my acne was stress and it would keep coming back if I remained at the same stress level. HAHA hilarious! Me? Stressed? NEVER!  Just school, work, family, wedding planning, house hunting, cleaning and everything else that comes along in life - yes, insanely stressed.
After all was said and done she recommended products to basically get my skin back to normal and I am happy to say I am 1 week into her recommendations and my skin looks fantastic!

Upcoming Blogs

I have a few blogs planned out, one of which being a How To on reading faces like a palm reader reads palms!  I don’t know if palm reading is real, but I do know that reading a face is!  But I want to hear from you, what do you want to see, know, learn - tell me!  Comment below or email me and let me know!

Proactiv Product Test - Day 1

Okay, like I said before, I had a few things in the works and being this was finally delivered I guess it is time to start.  So here we go..

The Proactiv Challenge

Goal:
Find out if Proactiv is all it is said to be

Time Span:
This challenge will be held over 1 month (being that is the supply they sent me)

About Proactiv:
Proactiv has been around for as long as I can remember (I found somewhere that is was launched in 1995), and from what it says on TV, its basically a miracle worker.  Proactiv is known as "Americas #1 Acne Treatment" with praise/awards from many sources naming different Proactiv products and systems as the "Best Acne Treatment."  Alright, I heard enough, it was time to test this product out!

Ordering:
Ordering Proactiv was not hard, nor very expensive (they have tons of deals on their website!).  I decided to go with the basic 3-step-system(30 days - $24.95 free shipping), which was to included:

1. Renewing Cleanser 2FL.OZ.: oil free, soap free cleanser with exfoliating beads and prescription-grade micro-crystal benzoyl peroxide

2. Revitalizing Toner  2FL.OZ.: salicylic acid, glycolic acid, and blend of chamomile, aloe and panthenol (vitamin B complex)

3. Repairing Treatment 1FL.OZ.: prescription-strength micro–crystal benzoyl peroxide, allantoin, aloe and panthenol

I'm not going to lie, I was very excited to get my box in the mail and start this challenge!  Everyone talks about this product and I really just wanted to know what all the hype was about.  Then, there it was...

From left to right, and nicely labeled (1-3) are my products that I ordered PLUS a bunch of free gifts (who doesn't LOVE free?!?) which included: Proactiv Deep Cleansing Brush, Advanced Daily Oil Control Salicylic Acid Acne Treatment, Oil Free Moisturizer SPF 15, and Green Tea Moisturizer.  All gifts, besides the brush, are smaller portions (1FLOZ and under) but I still found it to be nice and a great sales technique!

Instructions: Use products 1-3 twice a day, and one of those times you should use the brush with step #1 (Cleanser)

Day 1: So excited to test it out!

Step #1 Cleanser and Brush: Says to rub in skin (face, neck, ext) for 1-2 minutes.  This product is very light and I like that - nothing worse than thick and slimy!  You can really feel the "exfoliating beads" but it honestly feels more like sand.  Being it is suppose to exfoliate I think it is great and comes off very easy with the instructed warm water (drying with patting). Now about the brush, well, as excited as I was to try this brush out I am a bit disappointed.  I think I was expecting the brush portion to actually move/rotate, but it didn't.  That being said, when I was using the brush I felt like I was just pushing the cleanser around on my face and I got more out of it if I just used my hands.

Step #2 Revitalizing Toner:  Says to use a cotton ball to apply, and NOT to wash off.  Very thin, very light. This product made my skin feel fantastic! Felt clean, calm, fresh - I really liked this product.  After Step #2 drys, you move on to Step #3.

Step #3 Repairing Treatment:  The Repairing Treatment is to be applied after Step #2 has fully dried.  This product goes on like a cream or very light moisturizer.  It is still an acne treatment, so I was shocked at how light it really was.  It did not leave my face feeling smothered, it left it feeling as fresh as the toner in Step #2 did.

Thoughts about Day 1:
So far, I really like this product but I have yet to see results (obviously being its day 1 lol) and that's what really matters.

Overall Positives so far:
+ Cheap
+ No shipping costs
+ All products leave you feeling clean and refreshed
+ Products do not have any weird smells
+ Products have a nice texture, not slimy or thick
+ Easy directions to follow
+ Proactiv provides round the clock support
+ 4 free gifts sent with my order

Overall Negatives so far:
- Shipping took over a week
- Deep Cleansing Brush was a disappointment
- If you do not call and cancel, they automatically charge you/send you your next treatment (60-90 day at around $30.00-$50.00+)

Over the next few weeks I will add to this Pos/Neg list so at the end we can compare and see if this product is worth it!

I will be making weekly updates on this challenge for the next month OR until I run out of a product - these bottles are kind of small so we will see which happens first!  AND next month will include before and afters. Get ready!!

Have you ever tried this product?  Let me know how it worked for you! Comment below or connect with me on facebook/twitter with all info to the right!

A Little About Me

Well Hello!  This blog has been a long time coming - so time to get things started...

For those who do not know me, here is a little info to get you up-to-date:

I'm Katie and for as long as I can remember I have had a passion for art, makeup and skincare.  When I was younger, I would do my friends hair and makeup for school dances - then it was just fun for me, I never realized I was building a clientele base as well as planting a seed for my future.  Up until now I have been completely self taught - no formal training.  I actually have been going to school for something completely unrelated - Nursing.  But, I decided to make a change.  In life I feel it is very important to follow your dreams and to never let your passions die, and that is why I decided to take a break from Nursing School and follow my dreams.  Next month I will be starting an Aesthetics Program and I could not be more excited!  I plan on continuing my freelance work with makeup and girls night spa parties, finishing my Aesthetics program and eventually starting up a business of my own,  finish my Nursing education and combine both for a career that I will truly love.

About My Blog:
So now you are probably wondering what my plans are for my blog, right?  Well, I have a lot of them!  The most important of which is, I want to inspire.  I want everyone to know that beauty is truly on the inside, the outside is just for show.  But the outside controls the confidence of many, so if I can help you feel confident I hope that will allow you to let your true beauty shine <3 I have seen many tutorials online that are just so confusing, incomplete, or not that great - period, so my goal is to do everything on a very simple level. Facial How-Tos, Makeup Application tutorials, comparing products, product challenges - just to name a few. Eventually I will be posting videos as well, but I need my technology smart fiancĂ© to show me how first (passion for beauty, not technology ha).  Also, sooner or later I will start doing giveaways - maybe products, maybe a personal session, maybe a girls night spa party, well see when the time comes!
I have a few product comparing and product challenges in the works, but let me know what you are interested in!  Is there something you saw in a magazine you want to learn how to do?  Is there a product you are interested in trying?  I'm up for it!  I am here to learn as well, so if there is something I haven't tried/done, I would love to try it and share it with you.

Girls Night Spa Parties:

Who doesn't enjoy a night in with girls?  Maybe an On-Demand a movie, have a few cocktails, lots of talking and laughter - oh and how about a facial?  What we like to do is take your girls nights and bring them up a notch with an at home facial treatment.  Want to make the night even more enjoyable?  We also have a Massage Therapist that can come along!  Yes, you can enjoy a full spa experience in the comfort of your own home and at a fraction of the cost!  Great for birthday parties, bachelorette parties, baby showers, or everyday get togethers. We have many different options and treatments available.  Contact me for information gorgeouschaosbeauty@gmail.com

Well, that’s it for now!  Like I said, I have a few things in the works right now so expect the next post soon!
